Description

The One without limit

As a symbol of the Unity of All Things, this piece is intended to be an expression of my humble understanding of the intrinsic LIMITLESS relationship between the created and Creator.

The background features multiple varying facets representing the infinite attributes of the Creator (All-Compassionate, Ever-Merciful, The Provider, The Judge, …). The size, light and shadow as well as the blending of the two ends of colour spectrum is used to distinguish between these multitudes of attributes.

The foreground is comprised of an ‘Alif’ (the first of the 29 letters of the Arabic Alphabet), who’s shape resembles that of the numeral 1 and according to Arabic numerology also has the value of 1. It is said to take on the archetypal value of the whole alphabet, with which it begins. It is thus also identified with Adam, the father of humankind and was thus chosen to represent the fundamental essence of natural existence, the created self, in its capacity mirroring the Divine attributes, herein depicted by the reflective finish of the Alif. Since creation is a manifestation from the Attributes of the Creator.

While it stands Alone, Separated, Isolated and Independent, in that it is never connected with the letter following it. Thus symbolizing the transcendent, unqualified essence of Being. The downward stroke of the Alif symbolizes universal manifestation from the highest to the lowest state of Being. It symbolizes the Oneness of God as well as His unity.
